Issue 12 · The Showroom Reframed

Architecture
that holds
its breath.

Atelier Neue is a 4,200 m² showroom carved out of an old foundry. Inside: prototypes that won't ship for two years, and a quiet so dense you can feel the floor.

CHAPTER ONE

A doorway five months in the engineering.

The two pivot doors you just walked through weigh 480 kg each. They float on a hydraulic ring milled in Stuttgart and balanced on a single ceramic bearing.

We tested 41 handle profiles before we found the one your palm wanted to hold.

CHAPTER TWO

Light is the first material.

The skylights are tuned to your local solar arc. At 14:23 every Tuesday, a single shaft hits the bronze plinth at the centre of the hall. We did not engineer this. We just refused to block it.

Everything else was placed around that one minute.

Six Studios

Different rooms.
Same obsession.

Each studio is its own environmental system — lit, scented, and acoustically shaped to honour the work in it.

01

Object Hall

Twelve plinths. Twelve prototypes. None are for sale until they're ready.

02

Material Library

Touch 1,800 samples — alloys, woven carbons, ceramics, biopolymers. Catalogued by hand.

03

Sound Cell

An anechoic listening room. We test every speaker. Bring your favourite record.

04

Light Lab

200 fixtures, all dimmable to 0.1 lux. Build your house, lit to the minute.

05

The Vault

One-of-one pieces. By appointment, by candlelight, by request only.

06

The Kitchen

A working chef's kitchen. We cook for collectors. We don't take orders, we serve dinner.

Films

Watch the room move.

Film 01 · The pivot, in slow motion
Film 02 · Light, between 14:22 and 14:24
Identity

We do one new room
every four years.

Atelier Neue was founded in 2009 by four ex-architects who quit because their drawings were always cheaper than the buildings deserved.

We have no quarterly targets. We have a five-year sketchbook and a lot of patience.

Visit

By appointment, always.

The doors are unlocked.

Step inside. Walk slowly. The floor was hand-poured in three pours and you can hear each seam under your shoes.
